Abstract

|
As many recent research findings demonstrated that the whole body vibration (WBV) can significantly influence not only musculoskeletal system but circulatory and endocrine system, it has attracted scientific interest as a newly in-troduced training mode. This study, thus, intended to pro-vide fundamental information regarding WBV based on the existing scientific literatures for field application. WBV can stimulate muscular system for additional neural adaptation and also induce structural and functional development of muscle itself resulting general enhancement of functional ca-pacity of muscle. In addition, it has been reported that WBV can elevate bone mineral density in joint preventing osteoporosis. And it has been demonstrated that it can re-duce total body fat as well as Very Low Density Lipoprotein. Although some evidence showed that the in-tensity of WBV did not impact on the metabolic rate, WBV has been considered advantageous as safe and sufficient ex-ercise mode compared to previous traditional modes. However, further detailed studies are warranted.
